Rosewood (aniba rosaeodora)

Best known as “Brazilian rosewood“, but also as “Bahia rosewood“, this wood has a strong, sweet smell, which persists for many years, explaining the name rosewood. The Aniba rosodora is known as Pau-Rosa in Brazil. Sadly, the supply of this wood was greatly abused in the past and it now is as difficult to legally trade as elephant ivory.

Rosewood oil is a valuable essential oil, sometimes used in perfumery. It contains the substance linalool, which has a number of uses. It is a mild analgesic that can help alleviate headaches, toothaches and muscle and joint pain. This oil’s antiseptic properties help prevent wounds and cuts from getting infected, as well as stimulate faster healing.
