Hemp Seed (cannabis sativa)

Cannabis sativa is an annual herbaceous flowering plant indigenous to eastern Asia but now of cosmopolitan distribution due to widespread cultivation. It has been cultivated throughout recorded history, used as a source of fibre, seed oil, food, recreation, religious and spiritual moods, medicine and as a skin rejuvenator. Each part of the plant is harvested differently, depending on the purpose of its use, which are literally hundredfold.

The Quality:

We’re sure many of you know that terms like Australian made, Australian Certified Organic and Australian grown all mean different things.

That’s why we are very careful about the ingredients we use, and the best hemp seed oil we have found is grown right here in Australia. The hemp farm in Tasmania that we source our Hemp Seed Oil from goes through a very careful process to prepare the oil.

Their oil is cold pressed, filtered, then flushed and sealed with nitrogen to ensure that the Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s) are maintained from farm to your skin and your joint and muscle pain.

Unlike some imported hemp seed oils, there are no additives in their oil, and each batch is independently profiled to meet stringent standards for EFA’s, FFA’s (Free-fatty Acids), and peroxide. Each step of the process is documented and can be audited all the way back to the field each seed was grown in.

The Benefits:

Hemp Seed Oil absorbs quickly and doesn’t block the pores so will help the skin balance its oil production.

It is high in antioxidants, which are elements that prevent or slow cell damage. Because of this property, some people believe that the regular application of hemp oil slows the aging of the skin.

Hemp oil is a good source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which are called essential fats because they are needed to maintain healthy cells, nerves and brain function. These fatty acids must be absorbed from food or topical application because the body does not produce them.

The fats, or lipids, in hemp oil are very similar to those found in the skin. This makes it an effective moisturizer as it is able to penetrate deeply. It also adds a protective layer to the skin, helps prevent rashes and provides relief for acne.

Hemp seed oil is made from the only edible seed that contains gamma-linolenic acid or (GLA). GLA is needed to regulate hormone levels and it can diminish hormone-related acne outbreaks. It can also bring down the redness and irritation of acne outbreaks. Over time, it can help eliminate acne by keeping the skin healthy and hydrated.

Hemp Seed Oil hydrates the skin and brings more oxygen to it, which makes it a good treatment for eczema and dry, itchy skin. Because hemp oil is a natural product with no known side effects, it is ideal for treating any skin irritations. It also increases the elasticity of the skin and brings new life to dry, tired or dehydrated skin.

Not only is hemp oil rich in vitamins A and E, it also contains trace amounts of important minerals like potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc, calcium and phosphorus. Ingesting it as a nutritional supplement improves cardiovascular health and blood flow to the skin. It can thin the blood, helping to prevent unsightly varicose veins on the skin.

Hemp Seed Oil also adds vitamin D to the skin, allowing the absorption of calcium that is needed for soft, smooth skin, not to mention the overall benefits of Vit D to our wellbeing.
